Very Vanilla Dog Treats

What is needed for this recipe: (it makes about 75 treats)

  • 2 1/4 cup (.53 L ) whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup (.11 L) cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup (.11 L) rolled oats
  • 1 tsp. (4.9 ml) baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (.11 L) water
  • 1/2 cup (.11 L) unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tsp. (9.8 ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs, (2)  beaten
  • 3 tbsp. (44.3 ml) peanut butter

Steps to make:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C)
  2. Lightly grease two larger sized cookie sheets
  3. Mix the flour, cornmeal, oats, and baking powder in a bowl
  4. Lightly mix in the water, applesauce, and vanilla to the dry mixture
  5. Stir in the eggs and peanut butter to the mixture
  6. Put the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it until it is no longer sticky (should take about one minute)
  7. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch (2.54 cm) thickness, cut into 75 squares and place them on the cookie sheets
  8. bake for 15 minutes, turn the oven off and allow them to rest in the oven for 30 minutes
  9. Once you remove the treats from the oven, allow them to sit on the pan for approximately 30 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
